The impact of science on mining GDP
Iran is a mineral country due to its numerous reserves and resources.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, in mining countries, mines play a significant role in development as well as the production of wealth and capital. In our country, it can be said that mines and mining activities can be drivers of economic development and be an important factor in the expansion of the country's industrial areas, provided the optimal use of mineral resources. But the available statistics show that the share of the mining sector in GDP today is very low. It is expected that, with proper arrangements, we will be able to make optimal use of the mines beyond the current conditions. To this end, all desirable solutions to increase the share of the mining sector in GDP should be reviewed and operational after refining.
The application of up-to-date science and technology in mining activities is one of the important factors that increase the share of mines in GDP, because with the presence of engineering science, mines and mining industries are developed in a principled way and as a result the wealth of this sector will increase. Today, mining engineers play an important role in the fields of exploration, extraction and processing, but nevertheless, the gap in the role of mining engineering in the general mining policies of government institutions is felt in a significant way.
In Iran, the institution related to the discussion of the application of engineering in mines is the Organization of the Mining Engineering System. This organization has had a good performance in the country in the past years in order to advance the field of mining engineering. It seems desirable that this organization be strengthened and empowered by government institutions so that it can continue to take more effective measures to strengthen the mining engineering sector. In this situation, we can see a more prominent presence of science and technology in mining activities.
It should be noted that according to the Mining Law, one of the conditions for issuing mining and exploitation licenses for mines is the presence of a qualified graduate in mining or geology who has an employment license in mining activities. Therefore, it can be said that in the mining sector, the presence of engineers in this field is more or less used, but in the discussion of mining industries, the presence of graduates is unfortunately felt very strongly.
According to experts, in order to increase the productivity of mines and mining industries, appropriate policies should be considered by government institutions. One of the policies of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade can be based on the presence of a wider and more active presence of graduates of fields related to the mining industry. This seems to require mandatory guidelines and directives that require mining units to employ engineers and graduates of mining and related disciplines. It is noteworthy that large-scale mining industries have benefited from the presence of mining engineers and graduates of related fields, but this has not happened in small-scale processing units.
It seems that in the future, the conditions for the presence of mining experts in mines as well as mining processing units should be smoother. With the wider presence of related specialists in the mining industry, it is expected that with the development, the share of this sector in GDP will increase. The share of mining industries in GDP is more than the share of mines, but considering the existence of mining capacities in the country, this share is not significant. With the help of science and technology, Iran can achieve top global positions in the mining sector as well as the mining industry.
It is noteworthy that despite some laws regarding the presence of mining experts in mining activities, the general regulations developed in recent years have only assessed the technical competencies of mines and the existence of adequate financial resources for mine owners and miners. In fact, it can be said that special attention has not been paid to the presence of graduates and mining specialists in government policies. Therefore, it seems appropriate to review the existing laws and regulations to improve the status of engineering and in other words the application of science and technology in mines. This will not only lead to job creation for an important segment of the country's youth, but will also lead to the technical development of mining engineering and further increase the share of Iran's mining sector and mining industry in GDP.
