Exports to Tajikistan are made through a third country
Chairman of the Iran-Tajikistan Joint Chamber: According to official statistics, our trade with Tajikistan has sharply decreased. The reason for the decrease was not that the goods did not go to Tajikistan, but because of the dispute between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the possibility that the goods did not go directly to Iran from Tajikistan. We had to send goods to other countries to enter Tajikistan.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Mohammad Hassan Roshanak said about the news of an agreement with a Tajik bank to use the bank's dollar resources in the country's imports: In the last 24 years that I have been working with Central Asian countries, so far no credit opening or There was no bank currency exchange, which means that we never had official or bank currency exchange during this period. Of course, the exchange was informal and unbanked. In return for exporting money to Dubai, Turkey or other countries and an exchange office inside the country pays us in rials. In fact, we can not move currency; I do not know what decision has been made in this regard, but so far no such opening has taken place.
He added: "Therefore, I think such news is not true and if it is true, it is not operational. Even when we were not under sanctions, we could not use banking exchanges in trade with Central Asia." Now that sanctions are in place, how can we do that?
Referring to the existing banking problems, the head of the Iran-Tajikistan Joint Chamber said: "An Iranian bank is also present in Tajikistan, but it has never been able to help Iranian businessmen in this regard." There is a routine in trade with Central Asia and the same routine is underway. If currency fluctuations also occur, it is outside the scope of sanctions and in order to resist sanctions.
He added: "We hope that as soon as the effects of Mr. Trump's actions disappear, the country will return to a more normal routine, the Iranian resistance will yield results and an opening will be made." We do not have much hope for these ways, we have heard a lot about these things, but even the Iranian Bank in Tajikistan has not done anything for Iranian businessmen; Sometimes when we went to the bank to transfer money, the cost would be 10 percent, for example, but if we did it through informal means, it would be 2 percent.
Asked about the trade volume between the two countries, Roshanak said: "According to official statistics, our trade with Tajikistan has sharply decreased." The reason for the decrease was not that the goods did not go to Tajikistan, but because of the dispute between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the possibility that the goods did not go directly to Iran from Tajikistan. We had to send goods to other countries to enter Tajikistan.
"In fact, not only has our real exports to Tajikistan not decreased, but they have increased, but official statistics show that we have lost our exports to Tajikistan," he added. Because the truck could not go to Tajikistan from Turkmenistan.
Expressing hope for the future of Iran-Tajikistan trade next year, Roshanak said: "Given the foreign minister's visit to Tajikistan and the country's desire that there is no bad situation, the situation is better now." I hope we can have more exports and imports from Central Asia this year. Our imports from this region are mostly raw materials and fodder for livestock and poultry.
