Director General of the Transit Office of the Road Authority: All our trade and trade borders with Iraq are open, as well as passenger traffic with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, and the blockade of the borders with this country has been lifted.

According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Javad Hedayati stated about the latest situation on the borders of Iran and Iraq: After the corona outbreak, many countries have made or will make immediate and momentary decisions to stay safe from Covid 19; Many neighboring countries closed their borders in March of last year, but gradually, in accordance with different conditions, traffic on our borders with our neighbors returned to normal.

He added: "Following the outbreak of the British coronavirus, which is more highly transmitted and infectious, all countries are concerned, and Iraq has announced that it will close its borders with some countries, including Iran, for two weeks."

The Director General of the Transit Office of the Roads and Transportation Organization said: "Our follow-up, especially with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, due to our extensive relations with this region from Iraq, as well as the closure of the borders we had in March last year, trade and border relations." We were gradually returning to normal traffic with the climate; But with the recent decision of the Iraqi government, we were worried about going back to the situation of the previous months.

He reminded: "After we were able to reach an operational agreement with the regional officials on normal border traffic between Iran and the Kurdistan Region in June this year, serious resistance has formed in this region against our truck traffic and sometimes clashes with Iranian drivers on each side." Our three borders were reported with the climate including Bashmaq, Parviz Khan and Tamerchin.

According to Hedayati, with the follow-ups, the traffic has now returned to normal.

"We were worried that if Iraq closed its borders again, these things would happen again," he said. Therefore, we tried to follow up on the issue with the cooperation of the diplomatic apparatus, which fortunately received the news that in the first phase, Iraq agreed to limit the closure of the borders to the same passenger section and to continue the trade of trucks and trucks.

He noted: In the second phase, the passenger border blockade between Iran and northern Iraq was completely removed. The continuation of passenger traffic is only between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region, and passenger traffic, which was suspended from the Iraqi-Iraqi part of Iraq in March last year, is also prohibited. Because the climate is different and traffic decisions are different from southern Iraq. Of course, there has been more or less passenger traffic along the Iraqi Arab border in recent months.

Hedayati continued: "Because the climate is in a deadlock with neighbors, they have trade and passenger relations with Iran and our relations with them are closer and more." But southern Iraq has different conditions due to its port and connection to the Persian Gulf.

He stressed: the suspension of passenger traffic with Iraq in the climate sector is eliminated, but the Arab borders of Iraq will impose passenger traffic.

The Minister of Roads became the chairman of the council for organizing the country's land borders

Regarding the transfer of responsibility for border terminals to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the director general of the Transit Office of the Roads and Transportation Organization said: "This transfer has been approved by the government's economic coordination headquarters and the president has announced it."

He continued: "We have started work in earnest and the Council for Organizing the Land Boundaries of the country, chaired by the Minister of Roads, has also started its activities." The secretariat of this council has also been established in the Ministry of Roads and is vigorously promoting the organization and management of border terminals.

Hedayati said: "If the borders are not well controlled, they can become a source of corona outbreak. On the other hand, the country needs to export to neighboring countries and currency, which requires more active borders and increased border productivity; Therefore, while adhering to health protocols, we will also strengthen border crossings and export flows to our neighbors.
