Reminder to Tehran Municipality about extraction from Kuhsar green stone mines
The head of the Environment Committee of Tehran City Council warned the Tehran Municipality and the Tehran Province Industries and Mines Organization about the exploitation of the Kuhsar Green Stone Mine.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Seyed Arash Hosseini Milani said during the 259th session of the Tehran City Council, referring to the incident that took place in the Tochal Heights: Last week, a meeting was held with the governor of Shemiranat, according to which a joint working group With the help of the district municipality, various issues such as fire and the safety of climbers will be investigated, and with the support of the council, this working group will begin its work.
In a warning to prevent the destructive effects of the Kuhsar green stone mine, he told the mayor of Tehran and the Tehran Province Industry and Mining Organization: There are several environmental consequences, and despite my previous warning and the closure of the Kuhsar mine by the Environment Department last year, a report was recently sent to the city council that the mine would continue to operate.
Milani added: in the environmental regulations of mining activities, sensitive centers such as the approved urban area have strict legal requirements and in this regard, Tehran Municipality is no exception. Also, in previous exploitation licenses, the Industry and Mining Organization is obliged to obtain the opinion of the Environmental Protection Organization and observe the relevant measures.
He stated that the ownership of Kuhsar ore is the responsibility of Tehran Municipality: in recent months, it has been rented to others for exploitation at a very low price and without any economic and environmental justification, so to Tehran Municipality and Tehran Province Mining and Industry Organization. I warn them to stop harvesting operations as soon as possible in order to protect public rights and protect the city against floods and protect the mountain environment.
