How does the purchasing power of workers increase?
A labor activist called for improving the purchasing power of working-class households by making workers' wages a reality, and stressed the need for parliamentary oversight of the proper implementation of Article 41 of the Labor Law.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Rahmatollah Pourmousi, referring to the efforts of MPs to improve the livelihood of working families, said: "Representatives of the labor faction and the social commission are trying to increase the livelihood of workers by entering the wage debate, but this is the main issue." That the increase in the rights of the working community should be in accordance with Article 41 of the Labor Law and the process of determining wages should take place in the Supreme Labor Council.
He continued: "We expect the government to play its role in the discussion of tripartism and to see supervision and support instead of intervention." In any way we can, even the enactment of the law in the parliament, we will go in the direction that the labor group and the employer have more interaction and alignment in the wage negotiations, and so-called come together.
The labor activist stated: The main demand of the labor groups is that if the parliament wants to address the issue of wages, it should take steps to implement Article 41 of the Labor Law. We have the law now, but it is not enforced. Article 41 has two items and says that the salary increase should be based on the inflation announced by the official authorities and the Central Bank and on the calculation of household living expenses in order to provide a living basket.
Improving the purchasing power of workers by compensating for living expenses
Pourmoussi raises the question of how to increase the purchasing power of working families? He continued: "The wage committee determines the living expenses of working families every year." If we examine, we can see how much the 80 items of goods that are among the basic necessities of workers' lives have increased since last year. Housing alone accounts for a large part of the cost of living for workers. Clothing, foodstuffs and health supplies each affect workers' livelihoods; Therefore, improving the purchasing power of workers is done by compensating for the cost of living.
This labor activist expressed his opinion on the amendment of Article 41 of the Labor Law and said: MPs have two intrinsic and important duties; One is legislation and the other is overseeing the proper implementation of laws in the country. Whenever there is a discussion of amending Article 41, another story is formed and the amendments to Article 41 have never been directed at the workers. For this reason, I believe that instead of reforming, it is better to implement the law properly and for the parliament to monitor the proper implementation of the law.
Realization of wages with the correct implementation of Article 41
According to him, if Article 41 of the Labor Law is properly implemented, workers' salaries will be realized.
At the same time, Pourmousi referred to the composition of the Supreme Labor Council during the determination of wages and said: "It is good if the composition of the Supreme Labor Council is reasonable, but at present the composition of the members is not appropriate." A large employer and three employer representatives are opposed to the three representatives of the labor group, and it is natural that workers do not have high bargaining power, so the social commission and the labor faction can help to change this balance.
The labor activist concluded: "Given that oversight is one of the duties and powers of parliament, the working community expects to oversee the implementation of Article 41 of the Labor Law as the main basis and criterion for determining wages."
