Priority of chambers of commerce in the Corona period

About 10 months after the beginning of the corona epidemic in the world and about 9 months after the arrival of this virus in Iran, the private sector has reached a new picture in its position against this disease.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, the nature of the corona virus has caused many governments to reduce travel and block borders from the very first days of the virus entering their countries, and this has caused significant damage to two important economic sectors. entered. The first was trade and exports and imports, which fell sharply under the influence of the virus. Although the World Trade Organization initially predicted that global trade would decline by about 30 percent by 2020, statistics show that this number has declined, possibly due to easing restrictions.
In addition to trade, the service sector, and in particular tourism services, has also been severely damaged. Due to the serious decline in travel in recent months, from transportation to hotel services have been the sectors that have suffered the most, and all over the world, both the business and the related services are run by the private sector. The role of chambers of commerce will be very effective in overcoming the current difficult situation.
Given this situation, the 34th Asia-Pacific Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Conference was held virtually with the support of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). They presented their views on current trends, challenges, the volatile global market environment, the geopolitical landscape, and the role of governments and businesses in mitigating the effects of these developments and the global economic and trade turmoil.
From Iran, Pedram Soltani, Vice President of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry and representative of the Iran Chamber in the Confederation, was present at the meeting and presented his views.
"Chambers of commerce and industry are trying to adapt their business models to the existing risks," he said at the meeting, noting that the outbreak of the virus would pose a serious threat to the global economy.
"These models are in line with the necessary measures to address the risk of Covid-19 epidemics," he said.
Soltani also continued: in defining the principles of risk and risk management, chambers of commerce and industry should be in a position to consider themselves representative of small and medium industries (SMEs). On the other hand, they have to serve small and medium enterprises.
