Mineral extraction tripled in Mahabad
Head of Mahabad Mines: In the first half of this year, 349,900 tons of various minerals have been extracted from the active mines of this city, which has tripled compared to the same period last year.
According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Ako Javanmardi added: "Increasing the mining capacity of active mines in the city and activating four inactive mines has caused the extraction of minerals in the first 6 months of this year to increase by more than 210,000 tons compared to last year."
He pointed out that 12 types of minerals are mined in this city, he continued: the most important and most extracted stones in this period, including limestone carcass in the amount of 156 thousand tons, iron ore with 92 thousand tons and pumice ore with 18 thousand Is the body.
The head of Mahabad mines considered this city as one of the main poles of barite extraction in the country and stated: In the first half of this year, 12,000 tons of barite, which is also an effective material in the oil industry, was extracted from the mines of this city.
Javanmardi mentioned the number of active mines in the city as 35 and said: 24 mines have been extracted due to lack of sales market, decrease in construction and increase in the cost price of minerals and are currently inactive and 15 mines have been disqualified.
He announced the issuance of a mining exploitation license this year and stated: A total of 74 mining exploitation licenses have been issued in this city.
He said that currently 18 mineral technology units are active in this city, he said: At present, 40% of the total extracted materials in this city are processed and the rest is sent to Tabriz and Isfahan due to lack of machinery.
Some of the city's mineral products, including decorative stones, travertine, marble and granite, are also exported to neighboring countries such as Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
There are 51 of the 68 types of minerals identified in the country in West Azerbaijan; Currently, 468 mines are active in the province and 5,122 people are directly working in the mines of this province.
