Mineral reserves in Semnan province are so rich that 40% of gypsum, 60% of salt, 95% of celestine, 95% of zeolite, 15% of sodium sulfate, 15% of coal and 20% of chromite are present in Semnan and annually there are about 16 million Tons of minerals are extracted in the province.

Despite all these capacities, the province's mines face various problems such as lack of proper economic return due to lack of sales market, wear and tear of machinery, local opposition, barriers to executive bodies, expiration of operating licenses and in some cases lack of necessary safety.

Mehdi Salamati, pointing out that the mining sector is one of the priorities of the economy in Semnan province, added: According to the report, out of 6488 mines in the province until the end of 1398, 271 mines were inactive, which in the first four months of 99 366 mines became inactive.
