The governor of Qom, referring to the existence of mineral reserves in this province, stated: Qom should achieve a special position in the mining sector.

According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Bahram Sarmast, in a speech at the Qom Mines Council meeting, referring to the development of Qom in the field of mines, said: Qom has not achieved its position in the field of mines over the past years.

The governor of Qom Babian added that economic development in the salt lake sector is on the agenda of the provincial officials: Qom's share in the development of mines, especially the salt lake, should be obtained.

He said: "Despite the rich mineral reserves, if Qom remains useless, it will not be accepted and this issue should be seriously pursued by national and provincial officials."

Sarmast, referring to the prolongation of the process of activating the economic capacities of the Salt Lake and the exploitation of this lake in the field of mining and tourism, added: the necessary amendments should be made in the contract and contractor obligations to meet its operational requirements or call for new investors.

Salt Lake is located in the eastern part of Qom, between the three provinces of Qom, Semnan and Isfahan, and is the largest seasonal and suburban lake in the country, which has an area of about two hundred thousand hectares and one third of it is located in the geographical area of Qom.

He added: "In terms of government budgets, making the operation of this lake conditional on the development of infrastructure will cause the project to be suspended."

In another part of his speech, the governor of Qom considered the cooperation of natural resources for exploration necessary and said: considering that exploration and exploitation are two completely separate stages, at this stage, a memorandum of understanding on studies and exploration should be prepared by the end of September.

He continued: "In this case, according to the initial estimates made by the Geological Survey, Qom can find a metal face due to the existence of iron, copper, gold and other mines."

Two percent of the country's mines are located in Qom and the most important known reserves of this province include metal mines (lead, zinc, copper, manganese), non-metallic mines (kaolin, barite, salt and sodium sulfate) and mines of raw materials for construction materials (decorative stones, marble Granite, carcass stones, limestone and gypsum) that by using new designs and optimal use of these minerals can generate income-generating businesses in the field of mineral industry in the province.
