Extraction in Mahabad two and a half times last year
Mahabad Mines Manager: One hundred and thirty-six thousand six hundred and fifty-one tons of minerals were extracted from the mines of this city in the first three months of this year, which shows an increase of one hundred and forty-six percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the International Exhibition of Iranian Stone, Ako Javanmardi, pointing out that currently twelve types of minerals are extracted from the mines of this city, added: And the silica was thirty-nine and ten thousand tons, respectively.
He added that more than 40% of the country's total barite is produced as an effective material in the oil industry in Mahabad, adding that 3,386 tons of barite has been extracted from Mahabad mines since the beginning of this year. The same period last year is twenty-five percent less.
The head of Mahabad mining affairs continued: "Barite stone is used in cooling and lubricating drilling rigs, internal coating of oil wells, transferring materials from drilling to the ground and controlling abnormal pressures inside oil and gas wells."
Javanmardi stated: "Currently, there are thirty-two active mines and twenty-five inactive mines and sixteen mines operating in this city, in which more than two hundred and fifty people are directly employed and more than five hundred people are indirectly employed." .
He said: "This year, an exploration case has been sent to the provincial center for issuing exploitation licenses after completing its steps."
Ghaderi said that seventeen mineral technology units are currently active in the city, adding that 40 percent of all extracted materials are processed in the city and the rest are sent to Tabriz and Isfahan due to the lack of machinery.
Mahabad is one of the most important mining areas in West Azerbaijan.
More than sixty percent of the province's mines are located in the cities of Urmia, Takab, Mahabad, Khoy and Miandoab; West Azerbaijan has a good position in the field of mineral reserves, but it still has a long way to go before the desired exploitation of the capacity of the mining sector and the mining industry.
The territory of West Azerbaijan is covered by three zones of the country's twenty systematic exploration zones, including Oshnoyeh-Khoi, Marivan-Mahabad, and Shahin-Dzh-Mahneshan.
