Thirty percent increase in Mahabad mining
Mahabad Mining Officer: Since the beginning of this year, one hundred and thirty nine thousand tons of minerals have been extracted from the active mines of this city, which is thirty-three percent more than the same period last year.
According to Iran Stone Exhibition, Ako Javanmardi, pointing out that twelve types of minerals are being extracted in the city, said: "The most important and most extracted stones are limestone fifty two thousand tons, iron ore thirty thousand tons, respectively. And the mineral shell is eleven thousand tons.
He considered Mahabad as one of the main barite mines in the country.
He said: Barite rock is used to cool and drill boreholes, cover oil wells, transfer materials from drilling into the ground and control abnormal pressures inside oil and gas wells.
Mahabad's chief of mines said the number of active mines in the city was cited and said: "Twenty-five mines have been extracted and are now inactive due to lack of market sales, construction cuts and rising cost of minerals."
Javanmardi added: This year, three exploration files have been sent to the provincial capital after completing the procedures for issuing a license.
He said that there are currently eighteen mineral technology units in the city, and said that forty percent of the total extractive materials in the city are currently processed and the rest due to a lack of machinery in Tabriz and Isfahan.
Some of the city's mineral products, including decorative stones, travertine, marble and granite, are also exported to neighboring countries such as Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Mahabad is located in the south-west of Azerbaijan.
There are fifty-one of the sixty-eight types of ore identified in the West Azerbaijan; there are currently four hundred and sixty-eight mines in the province, with five thousand one hundred and twenty-two operating directly in the province's mines. .
